Joe Dudych Recording Services was on location last week recording a jazz flute and piano album led by and featuring Calgary’s John Reid on flute and Winnipeg’s Ron Paley on piano. We recorded at Ron’s place to take advantage of his fantastic sounding concert grand piano. With the autumn sun streaming into the recording space and some wild turkeys and a fox taking turns checking the session out from the deck just outside, it was pure pleasure to record these two masters of their crafts in such a beautiful setting. Check back for news of the future release of this record.
On another note of interest, Ron was honoured at the Western Canadian Music Awards this past Sunday with a Heritage Award. This was in recognition of his vast contribution to Canadian and international music over the past 4 decades as a bassist and pianist and as a big band leader, composer and arranger. This recognition of his hard work and immense talent is richly deserved. Congratulations, Ron!
