This past May, I began work with Polycoro on their latest project, a video of Dolly Parton’s “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” which was just released on July 9. As per Covid restrictions and protocols, we recorded a single singer at a time – not exactly a choral experience, but all things considered, it was the only alternative. I’m sure that when Ms. Parton wrote it, she couldn’t have imagined the Covid times that we, globally, are only now beginning to emerge from after 16 months. Lyrically, it was almost as though she was predicting the feelings we would all be feeling after having to isolate ourselves from each other for so long.
Together with Scott Reimer’s beautiful arrangement, the images in the video by Laina Brown are a stunning reminder of what we had been missing in our lives and long to get back. Here is Polycoro’s version of Dolly Parton’s “Light of a Clear Blue Morning”
